They are both Local Call Numbers. However! An 0845 number is rated at about 3.2 pence a minute to the caller, where a 0844 is rated at about 3.4 pence a minute (it also depends where you are in the country). 0845s now cost £10 per annum to rent. Whereas 0844s are still free for the first three (3)

An 0845 number allows callers to call you from anywhere in the UK and pay only a local call charge.

Only your annual rental fee of £10. There are no other charges involved.

How does it all work?
Firstly, you decide how many 0844 numbers you want. For example, choose one number for your main incoming line. Then, choose a few more numbers, so you can tell where your advertising responses are coming from. Place 1 number in Yellow Pages, 1 in Thompson's Local Directory and have one for the ads in your local paper etc. With our monthly statement, you can see where the responses to your advertising come from. Next, let us know the existing telephone line numbers to which you want us to direct your new 0844 numbers to.

How do you manage not to charge for the duration of the call, when BT and other providers charge?
When a caller calls your 0845 number, we carry the call for much of its journey, therefore BT pay us part of the call cost.

We will switch your number within 3 working days. If you need a more urgent change over, please call 0844 414 1111. if you change your termination number within the first 30 days, there will be a change charge of £20 + vat.

What if I have more than one office?

We can supply you with sequential 0844 numbers if you have a number of business lines and faxes. You may also wish to have different 0844 numbers for each office in your company. An added advantage is, that you can communicate between offices and pay only local call rates.

Does my customer have to pay more when they call me?

No. In most cases they will pay less, as they are only charged at local call rates, no matter where they are calling from in the UK.

Does this affect my current telephone number?

No, your calls are received as normal, the only difference being, the caller dials your 0844 number which is routed to your existing telephone line number.

I already have an 0844 service, can I switch the service to you and keep our existing 0844 number?

Yes. We can "port" your number from British Telecom, Energis and Cable and Wireless. This will allow you to retain your existing 0844 number, and the service will work in exactly the same way apart from ported numbers attract a lower call income. You will also save money, of course!

Can I divert an 0844 number to another UK number, an international number or a mobile number?

Yes. There is a charge to deliver calls to International numbers and Mobile numbers. The charges dependent on the International destination and the mobile Network. Please ask us for a quote.

Can 0844 Numbers be accessed internationally?

Yes, by dropping the 0 in the same way as you would a standard telephone number i.e. +44 (0) 845 124 0100. However, as we have no control over international telecoms carriers, we recommend including your standard telephone number in any international marketing campaigns. When calls are accessed from abroad they are charged to the customer at the international telecoms carrier's international rate.

Will my customers know that calls to our 0844 number are only charged at local rate?

It is widely known that calls to 0844 numbers are charged at local rate. In many cases, companies using 0845 numbers have the words "calls charged at local rate" next to or underneath the number.

You can use an 0844 number for private use. This gives a fixed rate local call of 3.40p per min 24 hours a day.

Do you send out statements so that we can see how much the number is being used etc?

Yes, A of July 2004 a statement will be sent directly to your registered email address.

Do you supply any pre-recorded 090 premium rate lines?

No, we only supply the premium rate numbers. It is up to you what you use them for.

Can I have a system where I can divert my 0844 number to my mobile if my fixed line is busy?

No not at this time.

Is there a minimum number of calls required each month to keep the number?

Absolutely not. This number is yours permanently. There are no pre-requisites.

Can I use the service with my ISDN hunt group?

Yes. Just let us know the number of your business so the 0845 can be terminated at that number. Calls will work exactly the same way.

Can I have voice mail on an 0844 number which sends an SMS to me when somebody leaves a message?

Not at this moment in time. However, it will work to an email address.

Will I receive sales calls if I order an 0844?

Absolutely not.

Do you terminate 0844 numbers to mobile phones.?

Yes we do. However, there is a minimum call spend charge of £10 +vat each month for this service and 20ppm for all calls received.

Can you supply more memorable numbers for 0844?

Yes we can, though this will incur a one off charge for this ranging from £50 to £2500, email us with your request and we will see what could be arranged.

Will the 0844 number call have a different ring tone on my phone?

No. All we do is redirect (route) the incoming call to your existing number. How the number rings depends totally on what you have arranged with BT. If you require a different ring tone for your 0845 number (i.e. you work from home and need to separate the calls from you personal calls and want to distinguish which call is which) you can arrange with BT o have another number associated to you existing number and it will have a different ring tone.

What happens if I wish to stop using the 0844?

Just give us a call or email us informing you no longer wish to use the number and we will disconnect it for you. There is no fee for this.
